Making a living in the arts is a commitment that requires dedication, persistence, and skill.
How do we create a career that will sustain us, artistically and financially, for the rest of our lives?
Monica is a filmmaker and writer who has been freelance for 20 years. She has never had a ‘proper’ job. Starting as a journalist and camera assistant in the late 80s, Monica worked her way through the film ranks before starting her own production company in 1994. She has produced and directed a huge range of work, including a telemovie and several series.
Working almost exclusively in documentary, Monica’s latest film Lesbians on the Loose is screening at Melbourne Queer Film Festival in March. Her first feature, Handbag, will be released in 2009.
Monica has worked as an advisor to other creative freelancers for over 10 years. Her workshop, Freelance Success, has helped hundreds of freelancers from every creative profession sustain their careers.
Monica is currently finishing a book version of Freelance Success that will be published by Petergate Publishing in both the UK and Australia in early 2008.
