Guest Speaker: Dr Mitzi Goldman

Mitzi GoldmanMitzi Goldman Mitzi has written, produced, edited, and directed documentaries for over 25 years. Her films have been screened locally and around the world in festivals in Germany, South Africa, the UK, France, Spain, and the USA. The films have received nominations and awards, including an ATOM Award for Best Social Issues Documentary.

Her past credits include Snakes and Ladders, Things I Call Mine, Many Homes, Many Names, Hatred, Ports of Destiny, Parra, Chinese Take Away, Bloodlines, and End of the Rainbow.

Recent releases include Memoirs of a Plague that was launched internationally in competition at IDFA (International Documentary Festival Amsterdam) and A Common Purpose, winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Sydney Film Festival.

Throughout her career Mitzi has combined documentary production with teaching, research, and writing. For the six years ending in 2008 Mitzi was Head of Documentary at AFTRS (Australian Film Television and Radio School).

Mitzi is a founder and co-ordinator of OzDox – The Australian Documentary Forum, which holds monthly events on documentary screen culture. She is also Co-Executive Director of the Documentary Australia Foundation. Her own production company is Looking Glass Pictures.

Mitzi holds a BA from University of Sydney and a Ph.D in Cultural Studies from UWS and is Co-Chair of the board of directors of the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC).
