Guest Speaker: Alex Lykos
After three years on the professional tennis circuit, Alex hung up his rackets for what he jovially claims to be “the less stressful and more secure arts world”.
Alex began writing and acting in 2001. In an attempt to get his work performed, he formed the Bulldog Theatre Company in 2006 which has now produced four of his plays: The Negotiating Table, Better Man, and Alex & Eve (the original and its sequel).
First performed in 2006, Alex & Eve has been Alex’s most popular play to date. It has had multiple seasons across Australia and plans are afoot for a national tour that will play Melbourne, Darwin, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Sydney.
Last year marked the premiere of the sequel Alex & Eve: The Wedding which was seen by more than 10,000 people at the Factory Theatre and Enmore Theatre, making Bulldog Theatre the leading independent theatre company in Australia.
Alex has also written five screenplays, all of which have received development funding from the AFC and the NSW FTO. Last year he sold one of his screenplays to an American independent studio.
Screen Australia provided development funding for the film version of Alex & Eve, which is scheduled for shooting in January 2011.
