Guest Speaker: Kyle Rowling
Kyle Rowling is an accomplished professional performer who began his involvement with the entertainment industry over 30 years ago. He studied at The Actors Conservatory and Actors Centre Australia, as well as spending much of his life studying a variety of combat and martial arts.
Over the past 15 years Kyle has been best known as a fight director for stage and screen. During this time he has taught stage combat and physical performance at NIDA, ACA, ACTT, VCA, STS, Screenwise, and AFTRS (amongst others).
As a highly respected fight director, Kyle has choreographed almost 200 stage fights in the last 10 years for companies and venues such as Sydney Theatre Company (STC), Opera Australia, NIDA, Bell Shakespeare, New Theatre, Griffin, Zenith Theatre, and Ensemble Theatre.
Kyle has also performed in many stage and film projects. For STC he appeared in The White Devil (New York tour), Don Juan, and The Women of Troy.
On television he has appeared in “Packed to the Rafters”, “Bikie Wars: Brothers in Arms”, and numerous TVCs, and has had a featured role in the first episode of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand”.
Kyle’s film work includes choreographing and performing fights as multiple body doubles in Star Wars Episodes II & III (primarily as the Count Dooku fight double for Christopher Lee) as well as working as Eric Bana’s personal pre-shoot weapons trainer for Troy. He has also applied his talents in various ways to others films such as Wanted, Invincible, and Gabriel.
Kyle is one of the founding company directors and producers of the new Sydney Shakespeare company Bard on the Beach, and last year he directed and played the title role in Macbeth.
