Jason van Genderen
In the cut-throat world that is filmmaking, why do some film concepts make the cut? Jason reflects on his move from advertising to short film, and then to directing and marketing the upcoming History Channel doco Lockout.
Using skills honed over 14 years working in advertising, Jason will walk us through his journey, from script to screen, of twice winning The Shoot Out Newcastle, the highly competitive 24-hour filmmakers’ feeding frenzy.
He’ll also recall his pilgrimage to Hollywood seeking interest in his first horror feature Pierce, as well as the two-year process of directing Lockout. This epic historical doco is the 80-year-old story of Australia’s most violent industrial dispute (www.lockout.tv).
Jason’s background in graphic design has guided both his filmmaking style as well as his approach to getting projects off the drawing board and onto the screen. His presentation will cast light on a host of tips and tricks to help your next project see the light of day.
