Winner of the Special Prize for a Woman Playwright and joint runner-up of the Adam NZ Play Award in 2010, The Liar’s Bible by Fiona Samuel explores life, death, art, children, sex and poetry.
Up for a lifetime achievement award, academic and poet Leo contemplates his accomplishments to date: two marriages, multiple children, and several affairs — all of which feature in his collected works “The Liar’s Bible”.
Embroiled in the mystery of her own past, Baby (one of Leo’s students) struggles to foresee any kind of future. Mary, a doctor and Leo’s current wife, trying to deal with her own inevitable mortality, numbs her feelings whenever and however she can. Meanwhile, in order to win back the woman of his dreams, budding entrepreneur Dave plans to conquer the world with his new venture. Gabrielle, a would-be filmmaker searching for a way to fund her first feature, hires house painter and unassuming philosopher Gus to paint a ‘prosperity’ wall in her office.
Over the course of seven life-changing weeks, these six contemporary characters grapple with the big questions in Samuel’s smart, funny, and intriguing drama.
Show & Tell maestro Tony Chu from NAFA will be present to guide a Q&A session immediately after the show.
